Evaluating non-American engineering degrees requires specialized training. Most diplomas and certifications require the same level of evaluation and use essentially the same criteria for evaluation. Engineering and applied science careers receive special attention to ensure the maximum possible level of safety and performance.
American engineering schools must abide by criteria set by ABET, the Accreditation Board for Engineering and technology. ABET is a non-government accrediting body overseeing engineering schools in the United States and internationally. ABET also accredits university-level computing, engineering technology and applied sciences schools. All told, the organization accredits 3,100 programs in 23 countries.
Engineers who received training in schools not under ABET’s umbrella need to prove they meet the organization’s criteria. Graduates from schools not meeting ABET standards are not allowed to practice engineering in the U.S. This doesn’t mean ordering the analysis was in vain, however. The evaluation can help engineers discover which areas of their education need improvement in order to work in the U.S.
State Boards and Credential Evaluations
Most of our engineering evaluation applications come from engineers seeking state-level licensing. Check with your State Board of Engineering before applying for a license to see if they require an Engineering Course Analysis for foreign-educated engineers. Most state boards insist on evaluations.

Due to the higher demands of engineering course analysis, fees are generally higher than for other transcript evaluations. Despite the specialized nature of the analysis, most engineering course evaluations have a turnaround of less than 15 days, so engineers can easily meet state board submission deadlines.
